Nearly ten years ago I joined Tideway, the company responsible for delivering London’s new super sewer. It was one of the most ambitious infrastructure projects in Europe and it was exhilarating to join this massive new multi-billion-pound programme.

We are delighted to publish Bridging the Gap: Infrastructure Careers from a Social Science Perspective, a new report exploring why social science students remain largely absent from the infrastructure sector and what can be done about it.

UK major infrastructure consenting has suffered from a rise in complexity and a drop in pace in decision-making in recent years. These effects have been reflected in slower delivery and poor cost-control post consent, seen for example in the High Speed 2 rail project.
