Senior Planner

The Senior Planner will play an important role within our Consenting Advisory Practice, supporting the delivery of high-quality consents advice across some of the UK’s most significant infrastructure projects.
 
Working as part of multidisciplinary teams, the role will provide day-to-day technical input across the consenting lifecycle, from pre-application strategy and engagement through to examination and post-consent delivery.

You will also take increasing responsibility for client accounts, project delivery and supporting junior colleagues.

Duties & Responsibilities
Client Advisory & Account Management
  • Support the development of trusted working relationships with clients, statutory consultees and other stakeholders.
  • Take day-to-day responsibility for the profitability and delivery of designated client accounts.
  • Contribute to industry events and external forums where relevant, supporting the firm's profile.
  • Provide day-to-day technical input on consenting strategies, including pre-application engagement, examination preparation, and post-consent compliance.
  • Prepare and review consents deliverables such as Planning Statements, Policy Compliance trackers, and Statements of Common Ground, under senior guidance.
  • Support clients in navigating the DCO process, Section 73 applications, and related regulatory frameworks.
  • Keep up to date with legislative, policy, and case law developments relevant to client accounts.
  • Manage day-to-day workloads within project teams to ensure delivery on time and to budget.

Person specification
  • Experience in infrastructure planning and consents or equivalent technical discipline, gained across consultancy, developer-side, or regulatory environments.
  • Working knowledge of the Development Consent Order (DCO) regime and/or other major consenting routes for nationally significant infrastructure.
  • Track record of delivering high-quality consents advice as part of a team on infrastructure projects.
  • Experience coordinating day-to-day workloads within a project team.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey planning matter clearly to a range of audiences.
  • Developing commercial awareness, with an interest in fee and account management.
  • Working towards, or holding, chartered membership of the RTPI, ICE, or equivalent professional body.
  • Experience across multiple infrastructure sectors (water, energy, transport, digital).
  • Familiarity with environmental impact assessment, habitat regulations assessment, or related technical disciplines.
